- Madawaska Falls, part 2 -

Pears building Here's the view just behind the J. Robert Manufacturing Building.

The apartments were built from City Classics and DPM kits with some stacked on top of each other. Arrangement is really important here with the taller buildings positioned behind the shorter ones. The PEARS sign was made on an Apple Macintosh but could be replicated on any computer with a times-like font. I sanded my sign really thin (very important) before white glueing to the building. While I had the white glue out, I added the vines using Woodland Scenics coarse grass.

The Town and Country store (brown and green building - A ladies fashion store named after the Ottawa based chain became a victim of the late 1980s recession and declared bankruptcy (come to think of it, we are still in it as of 1998!). It is a mix of a scratch built store front (0.020" and 0.040" sheet styrene) and DPM structures above glued together and air-brushed.

Building up the store front was quite easy, I simply did it one stage at a time starting with the short front. This was built initially with four lengths of styrene all glued together like a picture frame. Then, I added the detail trim to give it some interest. I then repeated the process for the long front, I added a door and voila, one strore front. Easy right? OK, now you do it!

This view shows a few of the buildings in the previous shots, but this time from the rear. We can see the J. Robert Mfg. and in this shot of it, the skylights are visible. In the foreground we can see the massive Canada Meat Packers structure.

Rooftops of the City of Madawaska
The I. Prescott Brewing and Malting Co. structure (its sign is just visible at the bottom of the photograph) is a blend of a scratch built (0.040" styrene) building and a DPM kit. The water tower is scratch built out of plain and scribed styrene with a plain paper roof plus some details that were swiped from a Con-Cor Superior Bakery kit.

If you look carefully, a FA2/FB2 combo just behind Annies Bar can be seen in this 3 foot square scene.

I have kept a complete log of the detailed construction of this and all my buildings so if you would like complete details, feel free to e-mail me. Click on this link to visit the next stop on our guided tour of the Prescott and Madawaska.
